A committee formed in November to fund and erect a new memorial to Greene County military veterans (not to be confused with the Schoolboys Soldiers of Rippey monument). The committee is working to find a location, design and raise funds for the project.
The committee invites all those who want to be part of selecting the site to a short presentation Tuesday, April 7, at 9 am in the supervisors board room at the courthouse in Jefferson. The memorial committee has narrowed10 possible sites to the top three. Pros and cons of each site were compiled over the past three monthly meetings, and the committee now wants to finalize the site and move forward with a design and fundraising activities.
Veterans and the public are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting. Pledges and donations for the memorial will be accepted at that time.
After the presentation, all are invited to join the veterans commission for a short program of appreciation for Barb Labate for her six years of dedicated service as the secretary of the Greene County veterans commission.
